Papu ja Pojat ("Bean and the Boys") was a Finnish band that consisted of singer Helena "Papu" Haro, Pekka Lehti (bass), Mitja Tuurala (keyboards), Mikko Lankinen (guitar) and Janne Haavisto (drums). All except Haro were also members of J. Karjalainen ja Mustat Lasit, and all their songs were written by J. Karjalainen. In 1983 they recorded their only album, but due to problems in publishing only three songs were published that year and the complete (self-titled) album didn't see the light of day until 1990. Today the album is a definite cult classic. .
Mapaputsi's name, derived from the Italian word for shoes and comprising Zulu elements, says a lot about him. "I don't want to be one of those artists who makes it then ignores up-and-coming artists. I see myself as opening the doors for them." Mapaputsi is a kwaito pioneer and continues to be a true innovator. Mapaputsi was born in Zola (a neighborhood in Soweto).
