Video Kid is a project of Bret McKenzie (born 29 June 1976 in New Zealand), a singer and actor, best known as one half of Flight of the Conchords and a former member of The Black Seeds. メンバーのイニシャルが全員Mである。
1998 年に三好真美・三好誠姉弟を中心に結成。バンド名は国名のルーマニアとウルグアイの首都であるモンテビデオから取った。ただし、ルーマニアは英語表記のRomania（ルーマニア語ではRomânia）ではなく、ローマ字表記のrumaniaになっている。バンド名は、固定されたイメージと深すぎる意味を持たせたくなかったという理由で、三好誠の地理好きが由来して感覚でつけられた。
メディアにあまり出演しない方針を採っているビーイング系アーティストとしては比較的メディアへの露出が多く、当時GIZA studioに所属していたアーティストの中ではテレビ朝日系音楽番組『ミュージックステーション』（1999年5月7日放送）に初めて出演した。地上波全国ネット出演においても初である。2000年1月10日には『NHK青春メッセージ2000』にも出演した。
1999 年、3月にインディーズより『JET PLANE』『sunny, cloudy, rain』の2枚のミニアルバムと限定アナログ盤2枚を立て続けにリリース後、同年4 月14日にシングル『Still for your love』でGIZA studioよりメジャーデビュー。同曲はアニメ『名探偵コナン』のエンディングテーマになり、オリコン最高位9位のスマッシュヒットを記録。
2000 年、間島和伸・麻越さとみ・松田明子の3人でRAMJET PULLEYを結成。
2002 年、3枚目のアルバム『MO' BETTER TRACKS』をリリース。これを最後に活動を事実的中止。
現在では、三好誠と間島和伸はビーイング専属の作曲家として活躍しており、所属歌手に楽曲を提供している。また、活動を中止したと思われていた三好真美も2006 年10月18日発売の上原あずみの2枚目のアルバム『生きたくはない僕等』収録のタイトル曲「生きたくはない僕等」の作曲を手掛け、作曲家としてもクレジットされた。但し、同曲は上原あずみの1stアルバム『無色』（2002年発売）の頃には存在しており「アルバムのイメージに合わず収録を見送っていた曲」と上原本人が語っている為、作曲家としての活動を始めたのかどうかや制作された2002年当時から作曲活動を始めていても現在も続けているのかは不明である。 .
