Zerry、Bobby、Pah、Toppiというステージ・ネームを名乗る謎の4人組。
一応本人は否定しているが、忌野清志郎の覆面バンドだ。
彼らの作品を語るにあたって外せないのが
88年に出たRCサクセションのアルバム『カヴァーズ』の話だろう。
これはタイトル通りのカヴァー集だが、
詞が反原発を始めとするメッセージ色の強いものだったことから
(キム・ヨンヒの記者会見の模様なども収録)、
それを過激と判断した東芝EMIが一部楽曲を外すことをバンド・サイドに打診。
結局、本作は全ての楽曲を収めた状態でキティ・レコードから発売された。
ちなみにこのアルバムには山口富士夫や泉谷しげる、
故ジョニー・サンダース、金子マリ、コリーヌ・ブレなど多数のゲストが参加している。
その後89年に"ザ・タイマーズ"という、
ある意味ぶっ飛んだバンド名でアルバム『THE TIMERS』をリリース。
その内容が、タブーとされるような表現に敢えて挑戦するアグレッシヴなものになったのは、
当時の本人のモードに『カヴァーズ』での一件が拍車をかけた部分も大きかったのだろう。
--95年には『復活!! タイマーズ』『不死身のタイマーズ』もリリースしている。
