レディオヘッド(Radiohead)は、イギリス・オックスフォード出身のロックバンド。重層的な音作りやアルバムごとの急激な変化でも知られ、同時代の最も創造的な音楽グループとして称賛されている。 メンバーは以下の5人。結成以来メンバーの入れ替わりはない。 　トム・ヨーク Thom Yorke 　　（メインボーカル / ギター / ピアノ) 　ジョニー・グリーンウッド Jonny Greenwood 　　（ギター / シンセサイザー / 鉄琴 / オンド・マルトノ / ストリングス・アレンジ) 　エド・オブライエン Ed O'Brien 　　（ギター / バックボーカル / エフェクター） 　コリン・グリーンウッド Colin Greenwood 　　（ベース / シンセサイザー） 　フィル・セルウェイ Phil Selway 　　（ドラム / パーカッション） 1986年に学校の友達が集まってバンドが結成された（当時のバンド名は「On A Friday」）。その後1991年にEMI傘下のパーロフォンと契約し、現在のバンド名に改名。EP『Drill』でメジャーデビューを果たした。 1stアルバム『Pablo Honey(1993)』からのシングル『Creep』は、当時ラジオを占拠していたグランジミュージックのひとつとして、アメリカを中心に世界的なヒットとなった。この頃のレディオヘッドはまだ、オーソドックスなロックバンドの1つであり、The Smiths、Pixies、R.E.M.、Magazine、Joy Divisionなどのオルタナティブロックや、ポストパンクに影響を受けていた。 レディオヘッドは当時、イギリス国内では、外国での一発屋と決めつけられていたが、2ndアルバム『The Bends(1995)』における濃密なギターとトム・ヨークの表現力豊かな歌によって、本国イギリスでも多数のファンを獲得し、人気を不動のものとした。 3rdアルバム『OK Computer(1997)』ではさらに大きな注目を集め、広がりのある冷たいサウンドと、現代の疎外感をテーマにした詩作の双方が人気を呼び、評論家などから90年代を代表する歴史的名盤としての評価を得た。 続く4thアルバム『Kid A(2000)』では電子音楽へ急接近し、多くのファンを驚かせ、賛否両論を巻き起こした。さらに、同時期に製作された5thアルバム『Amnesiac(2001)』では、電子音楽に留まらない、幅広いジャンルの影響を受けた音楽を展開したが、6th『Hail to the Thief(2003)』ではバンドサウンドへの回帰をみせた。この頃のレディオヘッドには、Autechre（電子音楽）、Can（実験音楽）、Charles Mingus（ジャズ）、Olivier Messiaen（クラシック）など、様々なアーティストの影響がみられる。 2007年10月、7thアルバム『In Rainbows』を、自身の公式Webサイトからダウンロード販売する形で発表。「あなたの言い値で」という、リスナー自身による価格決定方式が話題を呼んだ。 レディオヘッドの評価を高めている要因には、音楽的な独創性に加え、4thアルバムから見せた進取の精神がある。トムは社会的な取り組みにも熱心で、各種チャリティーや中国からのチベット独立運動、ジュビリー2000などにも参加している。 往時のヒットには恵まれないものの、レディオヘッドは現在でも音楽シーンの牽引者とみなされている。ライブには熱狂的なファンが押し寄せ、彼らの音楽は様々なジャンルのアーティストに影響を与えているが、彼ら自身はバンドの驚くべき商業的成功を「部外者」として楽しんでいるようでもある。 .
