22年アリゾナ州ノガレス生まれ。ロサンゼルスで育ち、トロンボーンとチェロを手にする。ベースをレッド・カレンダーとハーマン・ラインシャーゲンに師事、作曲法をロイド・リースに学ぶ。40年代初頭からルイ・アームストリング（tp）やライオネル・ハンプトン（vib）と共演し、50年にレッド・ノーヴォ（vib）のコンボに加わった。ニューヨークに定住し、エリントン（p）やゲッツ（ts）、テイタム（ｐ）、パウエル（p）らと共演。52年には自己のレーベル“デビュー”を設立したが55年に倒産。50年代は作曲家としても多くの実験的作品を発表、60年代には政治的な風刺をこめた作品も発表。77年以降は病に臥せ、78年のラスト録音は車椅子で監修を務め、79年メキシコで没。

Kid Mingus is a bedroom music producer from Manchester. Releasing sporadically on Hippocamp.net and Defunktion.net and on the semi-controversial 'Hippocamp Ruins' collections, Kid Mingus hopes to release another ep via the net in the coming months and is working towards a self-released single in late 2006. .

NOWINGUS is a defunct musical entity from Sydney, Australia. NOWINGUS was active between 2006 and 2009. The only NOWINGUS material "officially" released were two floppy disks released on Gluehead in 2007 and Limp Diskette in 2008.
