1979年にロサンゼルスで結成。
いわゆる「メロコア」と呼ばれるジャンルに先鞭を付けた存在であり、PENNYWISEやNOFX、THE OFFSPRINGといったバンドも彼らから大きな影響を受けたと公言している。
ヴォーカルのグレッグ・グラフィンによる歌詞は、ネイティブでも辞書を引かないとわからないほどの難解な単語を駆使したもので、レキシコン・パンクス(辞書パンク)と呼ばれる。取り上げるテーマは戦争・格差・宗教等の社会的問題で一貫している。

バンド活動と平行し、社長としてエピタフレコードを経営している。一時脱退するも復帰。
ベース：ジェイ・ベントリー
エビタフレコードの社員でもある。かつては副業としてバイクのメカニックを営んでいた。
ギター：グレッグ・ヘトソン
サークル・ジャークスのギターを兼任。一時解散状態にあったバンドを復活させたのは彼の功績である。
よくグレッグの頭の薄さがネタにされるが、彼の頭髪もグレッグに負けないほど減少している。
ギター：ブライアン・ベイカー
元マイナー・スレット。1994年加入。
ドラム：ブルックス・ワッカーマン
2001年、スイサイダル・テンデンシーズより移籍加入。 .
Adagio(アダージョ)はフランスの、ネオ・クラシカル・メタル/プログレッシブ・メタルバンド。
フランスはモンペリエ出身のギタリスト、ステファン・フォルテを中心に結成された。
1stアルバムでは、Pink Cream69のデヴィッド・リードマン(Vo)やMajesticのリチャード・アンダーソン(Key)、Elegyのダーク・ブルイネンバーグ(Dr)…という著名なバンドのメンバーが参加しており、一種のプロジェクト・バンド的体制が取られていた。
メンバーの脱退なども多々あるが、現在までに4枚のスタジオ・アルバム、1枚のライブ・アルバムを発表するなど精力的に活動している。
日本にも、フォーク・メタルバンドのKORPIKLAANIと共に来日し、公演を行った。
リーダーのステファンは、1996年に「Visions」というデモを作成し、これが後に、1stアルバム作成のための糧となった。
1st、2ndアルバムでは新人とは思えない洗練されたプログレッシブでクラシカルなワールドを展開し、その手の音楽を好む人々に高い評価を受けた。2ndアルバム発表後に出されたライブアルバムでは、高い演奏力と、しっかりとしたライブ的グルーブ感を見せた。
3rd、4thアルバムではライブのノリを考えたか、若干のデスメタル的アティチュードを取り入れた。
また、4thアルバムと同時期にリーダーのステファンはソロアルバム「The Shadows Comppendium 」をリリースしている。

Giorgio Moroder (born Hansjörg Moroder on April 26, 1940 in Ortisei, Italy) is an Italian record producer, songwriter and performer, whose groundbreaking work with synthesizers during the 1970s was a significant influence on new wave, techno and electronic music in general.
