Il progetto The Ergot nasce nel 2008 dalle menti di Ale (batteria), Clo (basso) e Diego (chitarra), basato su un doom death metal, con una forte componente melodica. Dal luglio dello stesso anno si unisce al gruppo Joseph (chitarra), mentre solo nel Gennaio 2009 arriva alla voce Eddie. Cominciano le composizioni dei brani che andranno a comporre il primo Demo-Ep "Anno Domini MMIX".
