Zilch is the title of two different artistic groups. The first is a project founded by Hideto "hide" Matsumoto in 1995 during a stay in Los Angeles. Zilch was intended to launch an English-speaking market for hide. hide with Spread Beaver was a Japanese rock band formed in the late '90s. Vocalist and guitarist, hide, formed the band after the disbandment of his previous group, X JAPAN. Most of the members of Spread Beaver were originally hide's live musicians for his two solo tours, but the group only formally became "hide with Spread Beaver" at the end of 1997. They released one single and recorded one more before the unexpected death of their vocalist. Bark Hide and Horn is a four-man rock orchestra hailing from Portland, Oregon. The boys create a full, dynamic sound that, within any song, can shift from soft, haunted folk to loud, raucous blues, with hints of indie-rock, country, gospel, and mariachi escaping in between. Many of their songs are like short stories, with characters lifted from the pages of old National Geographic magazines.
