The Meters | it

The Meters are an American funk band based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Meters performed and recorded their own music from the late 1960s until 1977. The band played an influential role as backing musicians for other artists, including Lee Dorsey and Dr John. While The Meters rarely enjoyed significant mainstream success, they are considered one of the progenitors of funk music and their work is highly influential on many other bands, both their contemporaries and modern musicians working in the funk idiom. The Meters' sound is defined by an earthy combination of tight melodic grooves and highly syncopated New...
The Centimeters are an eccentric band from LA, sometimes described as The Addams family meets Kurt Weil. The Centimeters started their metric rise to infamy in 1996, when Max Gomberg and Nora Keyes of The Parkas began to collaborate on material in an effort to produce a more refined sound; they met punk pioneer Don Bolles of The Germs and Transparency label owner Michael Shepard in 1997. The Funky Meters are give or take the same group as "The Meters", an American funk band based out of New Orleans, Louisiana. They were active between the late 60s until their breakup in 1977. They reunited later on, and went through a few new members, which resulted in the name change to "The Funky Meters".
