Willy Alberti werd geboren als derde kind in een gezin van acht kinderen van vader Jacobus Willem Verbrugge (geboren 11 mei 1901) en moeder Sophia Jacoba van Musscher (23 augustus 1901) die op 26 oktober 1921 in het huwelijk waren getreden. Willy Alberti werd geboren in de Konijnenstraat in de Jordaan.
