MARKOJUHANI RAUTAVAARA is a Finnish songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and -vocalist. The new RWO/RAUTAVAARA WORLDORCHESTRA CD called PUUKKO was released on 15 February 2008. It combines ethno music sounds with heavy rock and features Rautavaara’s own as well as KALEVALA lyrics. Besides the traditional drums/bass/guitar group the instruments used include kantele, didgeridoo, western and oriental wind instruments, banjo, mandolin, accordion, tenor guitar, violin, cello, and oriental percussions. Musicians of Finnish folk ensembles such as VÄRTTINÄ, PIIRPAUKE and INEHMO participated in the recording. Einojuhani Rautavaara (9 October 1928 – 27 July 2016) was a Finnish composer of classical music. He was one of the most notable Finnish composers after Jean Sibelius. Rautavaara wrote a great number of works spanning various styles. Having written early works using 12-tone serial techniques, his later music may be described as neo-romantic and mystical.
