Austra est un projet issu de la fertile imagination de la canadienne Katie Stelmanis. Pop DIY, voix haut perchée, drapée de nappes synthétiques pouvant rappeler parfois The Knife. Après avoir suivi Cocorosie pour une tournée en solo, Austra a créé son premier album en compagnie de Maya Postepski (avec qui elle fonda le projet GALAXY quelques années plus tôt) et Damian Taylor à qui l'on doit de prestigieuses productions (Björk, The Prodigy ou UNKLE). .
