Roots Manuva es el nombre artístico del rapero y productor Rodney Smith, nacido en Londres, en 1972. Su música es una mezcla de hip hop con dub y ragga fundamentalmente.
Smith creció en Stockwell, en el sur de Londres. Sus padres eran oriundos de un pequeño pueblo jamaicano llamado Banana Hole, donde su padre era predicador pentecostal y sastre. La estricta educación religiosa de su infancia ha influido en algunas de sus canciones, como Sinny Sin Sins o Colossal Insight.
