Die Band wurde 2005 von Sängerin Maria Brink und Gitarrist Chris Howorth ins Leben gerufen, nachdem die beiden zwischen sich Gemeinsamkeiten entdeckten und begannen Songs zu schreiben. Nach und nach stießen der Schlagzeuger Jeff Fabb und Gitarrist Blake Bunzel zu der Band. Nach einigen Wechseln am Bass kam schließlich noch Jesse Landry hinzu. In This Moment begann Demos aufzunehmen und ins Internet zu stellen, wodurch sie schon bald eine größere Fangemeinde hatten. Mit ihren selbst organisierten Touren erweckten sie schnell die Aufmerksamkeit des Plattenlabels Century Media Records und die Band bekam einen weltweiten Plattenvertrag. This Century is an American band from Phoenix, Arizona. It consists of members: Joel Kanitz, Ryan Gose, Sean Silverman, and Alex Silverman. The band was formed while most of the members were still attending high school. They experimented with several names such as "Modern Poets" and kept this name for two shows before changing it to "Evident Earth".
