Nelson Riddle, der als Posaunist seine Musikerlaufbahn begann, war einer der herausragenden US-amerikanischen Bigband-Arrangeure der 1950er und 1960er Jahre.
Als Posaunist spielte er in zahlreichen Bigbands, u. a. bei Tommy Dorsey. Lange Jahre war er der erste Arrangeur für Frank Sinatra (z. B. Songs For Swingin' Lovers, 1956).
