Die Ramones waren eine amerikanische Band aus Queens (New York City). Sie gelten als Prototyp der Punkband, obwohl der Begriff "Punk" als Genrebezeichnung erst später im Zusammenhang mit einer britischen Subkultur populär wurde. Sie schufen Mitte der Siebziger eher ungewollt eine neue Musikrichtung, da sie eine Abneigung gegen die damals produzierte Rockmusik im Zeitalter von Pink Floyd und Led Zeppelin hatten.
