Charming Hostess, ist eine US-amerikanische Band, deren Ursprünge im Umfeld der experimentellen Rockmusikszene in Oakland liegen. Die jetzige Formation mit drei Sängerinnen ging 2002 aus der Charming Hostess Big Band hervor. In dieser Zusammensetzung wurden bei Auftritten geschlechtsspezifische Konventionen karikiert - die weiblichen Mitglieder traten oft mit angeklebten Bärten auf, während die männlichen Mitglieder Röcke trugen. Die Musik basiert hauptsächlich auf traditionellen Gesängen aus Osteuropa und Nordafrika, die mit amerikanischem Folk, Doo Wop, Rock und Klezmer gemischt wurden. .

Prior to forming The Gaslight Anthem, Brian Fallon was the singer of the punk rock outfit This Charming Man. The band was formed in 2004 by Fallon along with Michael Volpe, Chris Clementi and Mike Leboeuf. Fallon and Volpe were the only original members when Benny Horowitz and Alex Levine joined in late 2005. In early 2006, Michael Volpe decided to leave the band and Alex Rosamilia was brought onboard, forming the present lineup of The Gaslight Anthem. Absolutely genius in being able to create a sound that is difficult to place in time. The usage of the full audible spectrum hints at production later than the 50's however the compositions feel timeless. Elements seem to range from surf rock and exotica to easy listening. A monumental task to bring all these elements into a cohesive structure.
