Ancient Rites ist eine belgische Black Metal Band aus Diest die Anfang 1989 gegründet wurde. Zunächst bestand die Band aus den Gitaristen Johan und Philip, dem Schlagzeuger Stefan und dem Sänger und Bassisten Gunther Theys. 1990 wurde das Demo "Dark Ritual" in der Untergrund-Szene veröffentlicht und erreichte somit weltweite Bekanntheit zu der Zeit in der Black Metal generell an Bedeutung in der Metal-Szene gewann. Bald nach dem Release verstarb Philip bei einem Autounfall und Stefan beging kurz darauf Selbstmord. Obwohl diese Phase sicherlich schmerzhaft für die Band war, beschlossen sie weiterzumachen. Brotherhood Of The Lake were a bleak and heavy but original and inventive Plymouth, Devon-based band. They toured with The Bled and Johnny Truant and played shows with Architects, The Chariot, Misery Signals, Terror, Dead Swans, August Burns Red, Protest The Hero, The Ghost Of A Thousand, Shaped By Fate and more. Brotherhood Of The Lake were featured in Metal Hammer magazine and received live reviews in Kerrang! and Rock Sound. They split in 2014 and some members continue in Death Parish. .
